There are few worse sensations than going to bed in summer and feeling your face stick to the pillow as you toss and turn into the late hours of the night. Nobody wants to waste precious sleep time (and wake up grumpy the next day) because their bedroom has turned into an oven.

To avoid a disturbed sleep on warm nights you could turn on the AC and enjoy restful sleep on cool bedsheets. But, is it safe to leave the air conditioner on all night?

The answer is YES! And here is why:

Sleep Quality

The Australian has published an article where it interviewed Matthew Walker, professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. According to Walker, “If our core temperature is too high, the brain cannot easily make the switch from being awake to being asleep, or create the best quality sleep.”

In fact, sleep studies advise insomniacs to adjust their thermostat to about 21 degrees Celsius to allow their core temperature to drop. Cooler temperatures provide the appropriate environment for the body to find the comfort zone that will ultimately enable it to cool itself to relax and fall asleep.

By maintaining what is now called a healthy sleep hygiene, you will enjoy peaceful, deeper sleep and feel refreshed the next day. Your brain will get the rest it needs so your thoughts will be sharper and your overall quality of life will be increased. Is there anything better than feeling reinvigorated right at the start of the day?
